June 2009 Week 4
Feel smooth with laser hair removal Any woman who is worried about unsightly hair should consider the benefits of laser hair removal.
A recent study found that 32 per cent of Brits are spending half a day a year on hair removal, with laser hair removal the only proven treatment to give long term reduction.
Pearl Lowe, commenting on the treatment said: "Your wardrobe can be the envy of all your friends but if you team outfits with ungroomed stubbly skin you can quickly ruin a look.
"Laser hair removal is a really great investment that's going to last you for seasons to come."
Jane Lewis, development director of Sk:n, a laser hair removal company, said that now is the "ideal time to start a course" and will be ideal for anyone looking to have "one less thing to think about in [a] daily grooming regime".
Anyone over the age of 18 can take advantage of the treatment, although it is important to make sure that the clinic you choose is registered with the Quality Care Commission.
Effect of smoking on economy researched
Not only is smoking an anti-social habit that can lead to skin ageing and stained teeth, but it is also costing UK businesses money.
In its first ever study into the detailed cost of smoking on UK businesses, the London School of Economics has found that the bad habit costs around £2.1 billion a year.
Drew Collins, from the NHS Stop Smoking Service, said: "Smoking is bad for your health and bad for business.
"If employers want to save money and look after their workers' health they should get in touch with their local NHS Stop Smoking Service. We can come into workplaces and help people to stop smoking at no extra cost."
Smokers were found to take an extra 1.77 days of sick a year due to their habit.
According to Dr Linda Bauld from the University of Bath and the UK Centre for Tobacco Control Studies, research has shown that "offering stop smoking support in the workplace is an effective way to help smokers quit".
