Photographing your item

To enhance the presentation of your individual items, the facility to include up to SIX enlargeable photographs for each listing is available - completely FREE!

Good lighting is absolutely essential. You could have the prettiest of outfits, but if shown in poor lighting it will seriously decrease the likelihood of it looking enticing to a buyer. Studio conditions could be a bit tricky, but don't worry - simply find a well lit room, a plain background and you should be able to achieve good results.

To help enhance photographs, try to gain access to a photographic programme when downloading your images - we recommend 'Paint Shop Pro' or 'Photo Shop'.

Below are some ideas as to how best present your clothing, accessories and shoes.

CLOTHING

If possible, arrange your item on a dressmaker's dummy or mannequin for best effect. If this is not possible, the item may be modelled, but please remember not to include facial features on the photograph. Alternatively an item could be arranged on a flat surface.

If the material is a light colour, present it against a darker or more neutral background, alternatively if it is dark or brightly coloured, photograph it against a lighter background.

Include as much detail as possible, i.e. a frontal view, a back view, a close-up of the material (this would apply especially if it is patterned or embroidered), buttons or fastenings, and any other relevant details that may enhance your item. If the item is a well known designer label - make sure you include an image of the label itself.

SHOES

Again, the more intimate the detail, the better presented your item will appear. Take pictures of your shoes from different angles - the heel, the toe, the side view and the top view. If it helps, provide a picture of the shoe being worn at an attractive angle.

Don't forget to include an image of the designer marks if it is a well known label.

ACCESSORIES, HANDBAGS & HATS

Take pictures of your item from every angle, with close-ups of details and/or monograms where applicable. If there are particularly attractive features on the item, don't forget to include them, i.e. braiding, feathers, leatherwork or beading.

Make the most of the item by including a photograph of it being modelled. Again, bear in mind that facial and personal features must be avoided wherever possible, in the case of hats, perhaps shadowing may be used on the photograph, or why not pull the brim down a little. Better still, a hat stand is just as effective!

Handbags are one of the most popular items and sadly there are a large number of sellers nowadays who may be passing off fakes as the real thing. Make sure that your item has a clear image of any distinguishing marks or labels to prove you are not one of them!
