Selling tips
Selling your item successfully depends largely on how you present the item to potential customers. In order to help you as much as possible, below you will find some tips. - The Site offers the capacity to download up to SIX photographs - absolutely free - for each item and would therefore suggest that to enhance your selling potential, you include as many as you can. See Photographing your item and Downloading your photographs.
- If your item has not been altered from it's original state, it is far easier to describe! 'Off the peg' is a well-known and widely recognised term.
- If your item has been altered or tailored in any way, it would help you to list those alterations.
- It is incredibly important that you include measurements. Different labels, espcially Italian and US designers, differ hugely in their sizing - so be sure to describe actual inches and/or centimetres. Here are some examples of the measurements you should include:
- Arm Length - measure from shoulder seam at the top of the arm to the cuff
- Waist - measure the item fastened up
- Inside Leg - measure the inside seam of the leg - top to bottom.
- Skirt length - measure from the top of the waistband to the bottom of the hem at the centre point of the front of the garment.
- Hips - measure at the widest point.
- It is important that you describe your item in as clear a way as possible to assist buyers with their purchase. The Site suggests that the following basic items be included in any description:
- THE DESIGNER. If the item is a well-known label, mention the name! If the item is High Street, mention the store! Do remember to check that your branding is completely correct, for the avoidance of doubt check our Terms and Conditions. The Site recognizes that there are a number of items that are influenced by the more famous names, but mentioning this is essential, i.e. a description may state 'this bag is infleunced by (designer name)' - but be careful! Passing off copies as the real thing is strictly forbidden and will result in the possible intervention/editing/deletion of your item, without warning or refund!
- SIZE. The Site provides an international size conversion chart between English, European and American sizes wherever we can. Remember to include details of the size and the country of origin; the size conversion charts will do the rest!
- COLOUR. For help in describing the colour of your garment, we have included as many basic colours as we can, however we have not broken them down into the numerous shades - for obvious reasons! If your particular shade is a little different i.e. 'fuschia pink', as opposed to 'pink' remember to add it to the description and the title. If you have a basic colour that we have perhaps missed, why not send us your new colour as a suggestion? (This can be done via the link on the listing page).
- CONDITION - Describe the wear or age of the item - whether it is new, slightly used or gently worn - see Classification of condition for further help.
- DESCRIPTION OF ITEM. Provide as full a description as possible, including any points that might not show up in a photograph, (if applicable). For instance:
- the texture or pattern on the material
- details of any embroidery
- buttons & fastenings
- cuffs - button or French
- opaque or transparent appearances
- details of any lace
- Lined or unlined
- Single or double-breasted.
- The cut or fall of the material
- Whether there are any pleats or slits etc
- Occasion for use (i.e. weddings, office or parties)
- Care instructions - hand wash/dryclean etc.
- Methods of Payment are important attributes of a successful seller. Please see Selling & returns policy and Selling & returns policy - tips for help, but remember, the more flexible your approach to payment and returns, the more attractive your item may appear!!
- A potential customer has the ability to ask for further information from you by using the Ask the seller a question link. It provides a facility for members to ask you, the Seller, a question about any one item for sale. The Site encourages sellers to respond in a prompt and pleasant manner to all questions and queries - a quick and helpful answer may encourage a potential customer to buy your item!
